Increasing number of malicious apps for Android devices!

Trend Micro the global leader in network antivirus and Internet content security software and services has published a post in its blog about a fake Skype mobile application for Android smartphones. This Skype fake application found on Russian websites is not the first one used to spread malware on smartphones, in fact there were other popular apps such as, Instagram and Angry Birds Space used for similar malicious purposes. These rogue apps once installed will send messages to premium numbers without the mobile owners’ consent.

Malicious Russian websites offer different versions of Skype apps for Android and users falling to these fake apps would not noticed that instead of the usual .apk file associated with Android apps, they have downloaded a .jar file which is a Java MIDlet that disguises itself as an installer for Skype!
